Who Are We?
Clean Rivers DR
We work closely with vulnerable communities to strengthen their ability to protect and sustainably manage these resources. Our purpose is to be a local driving force for the preservation of rivers and watersheds by integrating social and environmental actions.

On March 22nd, 2024, International Water Day, the Clean Rivers DR Foundation began
operations
The Clean Rivers DR Foundation was born with the conviction that the health of our rivers is crucial for the well-being of our communities and the balance of our ecosystem. We are dedicated to the mission of restoring and preserving the water resources of our country by promoting sustainable practices and
environmental awareness in every step we take.

Access to Drinking Water
Despite advances, there are still communities, especially in rural areas, that do not have safe and reliable access to drinking water. This not only affects public health but also social and economic development.
Deforestation and Erosion
Deforestation for agriculture, livestock, and urbanization has led to significant soil erosion. This negatively affects water quality and quantity, as eroded soil ends up in rivers, reducing their depth and capacity to support aquatic life.
Overexploitation of Resources
The overexploitation of water resources for intensive agriculture, industry, and human consumption endangers the sustainability of these resources. Climate change exacerbates this situation by altering precipitation patterns and increasing the frequency of droughts.
Impact of Climate Change
The Dominican Republic is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including increased intensity of hurricanes and extreme weather events. This not only causes direct damage to infrastructure and communities but also affects water availability and quality.
Loss of Biodiversity
River pollution and the degradation of aquatic ecosystems have a direct impact on biodiversity, leading to the loss of endemic species and the alteration of critical habitats
Water Pollution
Many rivers in the Dominican Republic suffer from high levels of pollution due to untreated wastewater discharges, both domestic and industrial. This has resulted in the degradation of water quality, affecting aquatic flora and fauna and the health of local communities.
